The Network Engineer will oversee and participate with the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, optimization and documentation of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This includes managing multiple projects, planning network technology roadmaps, and configuring/optimizing network services both internally and those integrated with Internet-based services. The network engineer will also manage the network servers, which include applications, databases, web, email, back-up, SAN, VoIP, and other servers. This position also includes analyzing and resolving network/server service problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provides reports, documentation, and training where required.
  • Designs and plans network communications systems.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Provides design and equipment staging support to joint agency command and control network life cycle replacement
  • Ensures seamless transition from older Extreme network to a more robust Cisco network solution with minimal downtime.
Other Qualifications/Responsibilities:
  • Patching, Labeling, Testing, and Troubleshooting Customer Data Drops.
  • Perform Quality control functions of Verifying Cut sheets, Cabling, and Labeling
  • Perform VLAN Creations and VLAN Extension
  • Perform Port Activation
  • Create Layer 2/Layer 3 Provisioning and Configuration Control Board Documentation
  • Deliver Materials to Job Sites
  •  Conduct Surveys and provide customer support
  • Administer systems and servers related to the network for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Align network services for the purpose of following the mission, vision, and values of the client.
  • Coordinate new construction, remodels, and existing facilities network/server for the purpose of completing designs, planning, purchasing, installation, configuration, maintenance, and testing.
  •  Develop, implement, and maintain the processes and documentation for network/server managements for the purpose of effective processes.
  • Applies extremely complex networking concepts in the analysis study, and design of data networks.
  • Analyzes network characteristics (e.g., traffic, connect time transmission speed, security, packet sizes, and throughput) and recommends procurement, removals and modifications to network components and capabilities.
  • Reviews existing network designs and capabilities with the goal of making refinements, reducing operating overhead, enhancing network throughput, and improving current network topologies.
  • Determines environmental and building power requirements for system design, types and  gauges of cable for communications applications, installation and testing requirements, cross-connection on distribution equipment, intermediate distribution frames, wire closets, pin and jack arrangements, and cable inventory management systems.
  • May provide team leadership or consulting  support on complex tasks.
  • Provide Assistance to Project Managers, Sr Network Engineers and Lead Cable Techs as needed.
  • Deliver, Unpack, and Install Battery backups (UPS), Switches, and Routers into Racks as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service onsite and remotely for the purpose of restoring service promptly and to resolve problems.
  • Serve as liaison with vendors, outsources, and contractors for the purpose of securing products, services, and SLAs.
  • Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
Other Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related discipline OR equivalent experience in a technical or business discipline.
  • Top Secret security clearance required.
  • Technical skills and knowledge of DOD Life Cycle Management is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a contributing team member.
